Q: What is Orthodontics?

A: Orthodontics is an area of specialty concerning the prevention and treatment of misaligned teeth and facial irregularities. Braces are the commonly used appliances used in these treatments.

Q: Why should I have my teeth straightened?

A: Orthodontic treatment improves not only your smile, but your oral health as well. Can your smile be improved? A fabulous smile will boost your self esteem and improve your quality of life. Orthodontic treatment will also make your face look delightful.

Misaligned teeth can affect your health. Crooked teeth can break easily and trap food, leading to tooth decay and gum disease.

Q: How does Orthodontic treatment straighten teeth?

A: Using gentle, steady pressure over time, braces move teeth into their proper positions. As the tooth moves, new bone grows in behind to support it. It's a slow procedure, but through time the shape of your mouth is actually changed.

Q: What will happen at my first Orthodontic appointment?

A: We will answer your questions about such issues as the need for treatment, the type of treatment appropriate for the patient and approximate length of treatment time. Information about general fees payment options will be given to you for review. We will also answer any other questions you may have about Orthodontic treatment. This initial appointment typically takes less than half an hour.

Q: Can you be too old for braces?

A: No. Age is not a factor as long as the bone and gum tissue around the teeth are healthy. Approximately 20% of orthodontic patients are adults.
